With summer on it’s way I think it is high time we look back on this cheeky little Tipi wedding at Bawdon Lodge Farm from last year. This wedding was a turning point for me. It cemented my love of Tipi Weddings (thanks Sami Tipi), It cemented the fact that EVERY wedding should in fact have a dog present and it cemented my new found love for the team at Bawdon Lodge farm #teambawdon.
Matt found me by the power that is Google and had me laughing from his first email, I new we would all get on famously. We had soon arranged to meet to go over wedding plans and ideas, we ended up chatting for about two hours, much of this spent cooing over Kas their ridiculously fluffy dog.
Matt and Sophie had so many ideas to personalise their wedding which is one of the reasons I loved it so much. There was personalised bunting with sayings that Matt’s late father used to say all the time “what you fail to understand is” and “So smile and get on with it”. They had their guests blowing bubbles as they walked down the aisle, they had a friend playing Matt’s Dads guitar as they walked down the aisle. There were two cakes, one of cheese and one of, well, cake.
Perhaps most impressive was that Sophie’s stunning dress was created by none other than her wedding dress designer mum and fashion graduate sister along with Matts waistcoat and the bridesmaids dresses, the special touches just kept on coming.
Let me take you on a journey through their day.
Bridal prep was at Sophie’s parents house, she got ready along with her bridesmaids, mum, Dad and Grandpa. Matt got ready at home and met up with all of his groomsmen and friends over at Bawdon Lodge Farm.
Sophie has a passion for horses so it went without saying that she would be taken to her special day by horse and carriage. Her face when she saw the horses for the first time was a picture! A perfect way to start the day.
Of course as the wedding was Outdoors Sophie and Matt had already had their legal ceremony in advance of the big day. This meant they could bring in the services of none other than Jo from My Perfect Ceremony I genuinely think this was one of the best wedding ceremonies I have ever photographed. Jo you see is not restricted by what she HAS to say so Matt and Sophie were able to work on their vows with her and had she had the whole wedding party in tears of laughter. Matt and Sophie even chose a photo of themselves with Jo to go in their wedding album! Go JO!
The ceremony took place under the Oak Tree at Bawdon Lodge Farm with wooden benches set out to form an aisle, it really was a beautiful location.
After the ceremony Sophie and Matt were whisked away for a horse and carriage ride, once Matt had his beer and Sophie had her champagne that is! When they returned we were able to take a few photos with the horses before they had to leave.
I like to split up the couples portraits in to three sections if I can, so once we had taken the group shots, Matt Sophie and I wondered off to get a few photos of just the two of them before they were called in for the Hog Roast. Kas came too of course.
Before long it was time for the evenings festivities to begin. The wedding shoe game was played, songs were sung and pancakes were eaten courtesy of the Old Manor House Bakery.
So ladies and gentlemen, a Tipi Wedding, full of personal little touches, a wedding shoe game, two cakes, a dog and a serious amount of full belly laughs. All brought together by the Amazing team that is Team Bawdon.
I have to give a special shout out to Emma for the final shot on this blog, she along with my husband ran around with little smoke pellets like lunatics trying to evenly disperse the smoke to my satisfaction with me trying so hard not to laugh at them and Matt and Sophie only just managing to stay still themselves. What an epic day!
