Abbots Oak Manor

I can’t believe I haven’t blogged about this wedding at Abbots Oak Manor yet! I think this may be one of my favourite micro weddings yet, and the best thing is, it was always meant to be a micro wedding.

Way back when Bethan and Tom booked me they had been planning for a smaller, more intimate wedding day and Abbots Oak Manor provided the perfect location for them, it even meant their dog could come along to the wedding too, bow tie and all.

Getting ready with her mum and sister I joined Bethan in the bridal suite, there was a certain calmness about the place, and the room smelt incredible courtesy of Bethans’ dried flower bouquet.

We had a great vantage point to watch people arriving and just be generally nosy, and as Bethan only had to go downstairs for the ceremony we weren’t rushed at all.

Bethan and Tom walked down the aisle together and said their vows in front of their close family and friends. It was a perfect ceremony in a perfect location.

I am so excited to share these photographs from their day, I was only with them for 4 hours, but sometimes that is all you need and I think these images document their day perfectly.

Fort Henry summer wedding

Fort Henry summer wedding

Bride and groom at exton park

Sophie and James chose the stunning Fort Henry in Exton for their wedding day this July. I can’t believe I have been photographing weddings in Rutland for years now and have never had a wedding here (especially as the one the following weekend was here too!)

Fort Henry is a wonderfully gothic folly, sitting beside a large lake in Exton, Rutland dating back to 1788.

I was so excited to photograph Sophie and Jame’s wedding, I did know however that my sense of direction is poor at the best of times, and although I had seen Fort Henry from the other side of the lake during one of my many lockdown walks I had never actually driven there. With this in mind, I decided to do a site visit beforehand and the wonderful Connie from Barnsdale Lodge allowed me to follow her down and take a look around Fort Henry. I have never been so thankful to have carried out a pre-wedding site visit! I would never have found it on my own. The guests managed it but there were a few hairy moments so I am told.

Sophie was getting ready at her family home with her wonderful bridesmaids and her parents and grandma whilst James was at their home for the morning. As they had opted to book my second photographer for the day, Dan was with James for groom prep so we get to share some of those here too. I love it when my couples book a second, it is always so nice to see the other side of the day and from another set of eyes.

As you can see, the guests didn’t have as much trouble finding Fort Henry as I would have done, although I understand from later conversations they had all left early and followed the signs rather than the sat nav!

Fort Henry is simply stunning, the views across the lake and the lush greenery all around is just so perfect, and with the weather we had for Sophie and James’ wedding it was even more perfect.

The ceremony was outdoors, at the moment couples still need to be stood underneath a roof to be married so that is why in the photos you will see that Sophie and James are on the step just at the door of Fort Henry but this didn’t diminish from the beauty of the setting.

The guests were expertly looked after by Liz and her team from Barnsdale Lodge on the day fixing buttonholes and furnishing the guests with refreshments after the ceremoy.

After the wedding ceremony, we all headed back to the Brides family farm for a marquee reception in the grounds. I had been here with Sophie in the morning and took a few photos before we left, the room wasn’t completely finished but I am so glad I did because by the time we caught up with the rest of the wedding party they were already seated at their tables ready to welcome Sophie and James in as the new Mr & Mrs.

Before sunset we managed to capture a few images of Sophie with her childhood pony, she was wearing the cutest little floral head collar and obligingly smiled for some photos with the bride laughing

Bawdon Lodge Wedding

Bawdon Lodge Wedding

Brides walking through the woods at Bawdon Lodge Farm

I first met Krysia and Alex way back in 2018 at an open day at Bawdon Lodge Farm where they would be getting married. Their 2020 wedding date felt like so long away when they booked but I was so looking forward to their wedding, we hit it off immediately and they just seemed so relaxed about everything.

It’s a good job really because as we all know, Covid struck in early 2020, and with their wedding planned for June that year, they soon realised that they would need to reschedule the date.

Fast forward to 2021 and with their wedding planned for the 26th June and restrictions due to ease on the 21st it felt like everything was finally coming together, but alas, restrictions were not eased and they toyed with moving the date again but decided to hold firm and have their wedding restrictions and all.

Bawdon Lodge farm looked after the ladies in the incredible way they always do. They increased their team numbers to allow for table service and made sure everyone had everything they needed throughout the day and into the night.

Krysia and Alex’s wedding at Bawdon Lodge Farm was nothing short of incredible, it was a funfair of activity quite literally, with hook a duck, an inflatable helter-skelter, a shooting range, crazy golf (a wedding gift from Bawdon Lodge Farm and a surprise for the lucky couple), a photo booth and fire pits. Bell tents were set up and some guests had even brought their own tents across, all ready to stay the night and be served a delicious breakfast by Lynn and Richard the following morning.

The food fit perfectly in with the theme with Gorgeous Gourmet Grub providing Cajun chicken flatbreads and three-bean chili, followed by Crepes from The Old Manor House Bakery I tested both and can safely say they are INCREDIBLE! Later in the evening Biddulphs Pizzeria arrived and provided their delicious pizzas for all of the guests as well.

The awesomeness didn’t stop there though, the ladies had put together the funniest montage for their first dance, they had only managed to practice it twice before the moment arrived but they didn’t put a foot wrong and it had everyone clapping along.

I had so much fun photographing this wedding I didn’t want to leave, can we do it all again next year ladies??

Summer wedding at Richmond Hill

Summer wedding at Richmond Hill

Richmond Hill Wedding bridal portrait

“Will and I are going ahead with our wedding. Not to sound cliche and all, but….we just want to get married to each other now :)”

These are words directly from Will and Lorena when we chatted a few months ahead of their intended wedding date. They had already had to move it once from its original October date. I remember thinking way back in March of 2020 how ludicrous it felt for us all to be thinking weddings might not be going ahead by October, and yet here we are in July of 2021 still waiting for the restrictions to be fully lifted.

Keeping the June wedding date did mean that many of Lorena’s overseas family were not able to attend which I know hit hard, especially on the day itself with tears being shed, but there were so many beautiful surprises from guests near and far that helped ease this a little and Lorena and Wills wedding at the Richmond Hill Hotel was absolutely beautiful.

Now Lorena is Italian/American so it goes without saying that she would have pasta for her pre-wedding meal. Here is her wonderful mum cooking up a feast for her.

Anyone who knows me will know I am a Daddy’s girl so this moment is always one of my highlights on a wedding day. The moment a father see’s his little girl in her wedding dress for the very first time.

Dad and his daughter on her wedding day

As many of the family couldn’t travel over for the wedding from America due to the current travel restrictions, Lorena and her family had a video call before leaving for the church. It was so incredible to see the connection they so clearly shared.

At this exact moment, Lorena exclaims; “it’s in my dress it’s in my dress”. Confetti gets everywhere ladies, consider yourself warned.

If we have time after all of the more formal group shots are taken I love to have a bit of fun with the bridal party. I make sure I capture a ‘nice’ image of each member of the bridal party and then we throw some poses. I love seeing how much effort some people put into their poses, it’s always such a laugh.

This is one of the lovely surprises I eluded to earlier. Some family members over in America arranged for champagne to be sent to the table to toast the newlyweds. You can see the emotion on their faces so clearly when they realised what was going on. This was a wedding where tissues were needed for sure!

Dad’s speech included a slideshow filled with images and videos of Lorena growing up and some handily passed on images of William too. There were also speeches from the two Best Men, the chief Bridesmaid, and the couple themselves. Emotions were flying high and there wasn’t one googled section of the speech in there anywhere.

Dancefloors are still not allowed under current restrictions but first dances are back!! And William and Lorena did not disappoint, neither did the father-daughter dance which was truly one of the best I have ever seen. These dances were perfectly fit for the Richmond Hill Hotel Ballroom.

Followed closely by one final surprise. The family had arranged for a whole host of video messages from family near and far. Seeing these messages and how close the family is really showed just how much more EPIC a wedding this would have been had it been restriction-free. That being said, this was a truly beautiful wedding and I am so pleased William and Lorena didn’t have to wait another year to tie the knot.

Barnsdale Gardens wedding

Barnsdale Gardens wedding

Wedding at Barnsdale Gardens

I will be the first to admit it, until lockdown part 1 I had never been to visit Barnsdale Gardens and I am kicking myself now because it is just such a beautiful escape with a huge variety of garden inspiration (not that I am in the slightest bit green-fingered) and it has the cutest cafe with outdoor seating.

Barnsdale Gardens also cater for weddings, yes, I know, a photographers paradise filled with hundreds of different and unique locations for those all-important wedding day photos it’s a wonder I haven’t been here before. What I can say is that they now can’t get rid of me.

Back in May, a group of incredible local wedding suppliers pulled together what can only be described as a quintessentially British Styled Wedding shoot.

For the uninitiated, a styled shoot is basically a day where all of the suppliers work together to create their dream wedding in terms of styling location, colours, photography and overall ‘vibe’. We couldn’t decide on what the groom should wear so we decided on two different looks with two different couples.

The day starts with Amanda (on floral designs) and Jack (on wedding styling and prop hire) bringing everything down from the cars and on to location. There is a huge amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to get everything ready on a wedding day.

Yes, that is a teeny tiny newborn baby coming along with her big brother and her mummy to deliver the gorgeous stationery set. You can find this lovely ladies creations here

Barnsdale Gardens wedding amanda forman photography-3

Once our first couple arrived we headed over to hair and makeup with Michaela from The Boho Bridal and Alice from Alice Snell Bridal.

The weather was being very kind to us at this point so we finished up the makeup and hair in the grounds of Barnsdale Gardens rather than sitting inside.

I will be listing all of the suppliers at the bottom of this blog post so you can steal them for your wedding. It was such a dream team and Barnsdale Gardens is just the most beautiful location for a wedding or wedding reception so be sure to look them up and ask for Charlotte.

The afternoon section of the shoot was a little rainier than we had hoped for but we more than made up for it, using the puddles to create some stunning reflection photos.
