Supplier spotlight – harpist Harriet Flather

A bit of background

I am so excited to introduce you to Harriet Flather a local musician and one of the very first of my Supplier spotlights. Harriet is a Harpist based in Rutland, she is also a great friend of mine and I have had the pleasure of working with her on many many weddings over the years.

She has played for audiences such as The Vamps, Michael Parkinson, Her Grace The Duchess of Rutland, and HRH the Prince of Wales so it is safe to say if you book Harriet to play at your wedding, you are more than safe in her hands.

I love to recommend local suppliers to you, my wonderful couples and it is so important to me that I am recommending people I have worked with and can vouch for. I also think it is useful for you to go in with some key questions already answered which is why I have started these monthly supplier spotlights. I really hope you find them useful.

HARRIET FLATHER

In her own words

What are your top tips for couples when choosing their wedding music – is there a specific amount they should consider?
My top tip is don’t overthink it! You won’t hear a lot of the music as you’ll be milling about with guests, having your photo taken, or perhaps not even in the room. However, for the music for your ceremony, go for music that is really meaningful to you as a couple, but also remember the gravity of the situation.

What sort of music can you play? Do you play more modern songs?
Pretty much anything you like! The harp is an incredibly versatile instrument and can handle anything from traditional classical music to modern songs by bands like Metallica! Some of the songs in my Repertoire include;
Brahms: Lullaby
The Beetles: All you need is love
Bruno Mars: Marry you
Bond: We have all the time in the world
Les Miserables: On my own
The Little Mermaid: Kiss the girl

Of course, if you don’t see the one you want just ask, my collections currently include the option to ask me to learn songs just for you.

How long can you play during the wedding?
My packages cover anything from the wedding Ceremony to Drinks and through the Wedding Breakfast – as long as you like really! All of the pricing is shown on my website and you can find the full details right here.

Why do you love playing at weddings so much?
I just love LOVE! There is nothing like the feeling in a room when two people who are so clearly in love are making lifelong vows to each other. It really is electric.

What got you into playing the harp in the first place?
I saw a picture of one at school and thought it was pretty! I was that super annoying child who pestered my parents for ages until they finally took me to a harp concert. I just wanted to wear long dresses and play amazing music!

What is the most unusual place you have played?
I’ve been lucky enough to play at some amazing venues, but the most unusual has to be La Mortella in Ischia, Italy. It wasn’t a wedding but an orchestral concert. It started at 9 pm and the sun went down while we were playing – it was magical!

Do you play anything else other than the harp?
Yes! I actually studied the clarinet at university so I play that plus saxophone and flute – and a tiny bit of piano!

Do you only play at weddings?
Although weddings are my favourite, I also play for parties and corporate events.
