Normanton Church wedding ceremony

One of the things I love most about living in Rutland is the beautiful wedding and wedding reception venues we have right on our doorstep. I always feel a little surge of happiness when a couple contact me to say they are getting married in Normanton Church and this wedding was no exception.

Mark and Judy have had to move their wedding 3 times due to Covid and decided that when it was announced that they could have 15 people in May that they would go ahead regardless and make the absoloute best of it, and what a fantastic day it turned out to be.

The day started at their home for Bridal prep. There was such a buzz about the house, I felt right at home coming from a family of 7 siblings. The girls were running around getting their makeup done, choosing which jewlery to wear and comparing outfits and the boys were all sat chatting in the living room.

The brides family weren’t all able to travel over for the wedding due to Covid restrictions so they dialed one of her sisters in to see her in her dress. It was such a magical moment.

When planning the timeline for the day we weren’t sure how much time we would have for group portraits after the wedding so we planned in a few garden shots beforehand (in case it rained later as we couldn’t go inside) and this may actually be one of my new favourite ways to do things!!

We headed off to Normanton Church in Rutland for the Ceremony itself, only 15 people were allowed inside and all had to wear masks, a little different to what we are used to with weddings but it didn’t lessen the moment at all. Watching Judy walk down the aisle to Mark had me welling up, you could see the pure emotion in her eyes and how much they had both longed for this moment to come.

What happened next was fate, I am certain of it. Right up until a week before the wedding, Mark and Judy had been planning to have a picnic outside at Rutland Water for their wedding guests. They were, understandably, nervous about the weather and worried that it would affect the day but they had no other option, or so they thought.

The week before, they decided to take a walk around the water and stopped at Normanton Park Hotel for a coffee. Whilst there they noticed a marquee on the grounds looking out to the water and asked one of the staff what it was for. It turns out, there was a wedding there that day and that was for the wedding breakfast!! Stupidly excited about this they asked to speak to the wedding planner and booked the marquee on the spot, it was the only date that Normanton Park Hotel had available for the next few months, how amazing!

After the wedding breakfast Mark & Judy had booked an Air B&B right on the water. I have lived here over 5 years and didn’t even know it existed and what a find it was, it was so beautiful.

I took a few more group photos here before finishing with some more portraits of Mark and Judy before heading off. to leave them to their evening. With covid restrictions still in place they weren’t allowed live music or a dancefloor so they enjoyed a lovely evening together looking out to the water.

Sophie and Patrick had been due to get married in Italy, but then Covid struck and everything had to be cancelled. They didn’t let this spoil their wedding though they simply switched things up and got married right here in Rutland.

I wasn’t allowed in to the ceremony which was held at Oakham Registry office. I beleive this is because they are using the smaller room at the moment so only the couple and their two witnesses are allowed in.

Instead I met Sophie and Patrick at Normanton Church on what was one of the hottest days of the year and we captured some family photos and couple shots for them.

Please note: the couple had been living through lockdown with Sophie’s parents so they were able to attend their wedding and not socially distance.

Here are a few photos from their perfect day, all finished off with an ice cream, because, well, it would be rude note to!

With all of the changes currently taking place it certainly looks like Micro weddings are going to be around to stay for a little while and of course here at Amanda Forman Photography I am ever adapting and am excited to show you exactly how FANTASTIC a micro wedding can really be.

So firstly, what is a micro wedding? Is it the same as an elopement? Well in all honesty the amount of people in a micro wedding is constanly changing, had you asked me last week I would have said a micro wedding would be one containing 30 people or less, but as of last night it is 15 people or less and yes they can be just as much fun.

A micro wedding is smaller in size than a standard wedding, costs a lot less (hurrah), it is usually shorter in length and is a lot more intimate. An elopement is something that is usually done in secret and is often just the couple, two witnesses and their photographer if they choose to have one (which of course I suggest you do so that you can share your images with family and friends)

I will of course go in to more detail on Micro weddings on a seperate blog post as I don’t want to take away from this INCREDIBLE micro wedding of Jessica and Steve in Oakham.

The day started as I feel all weddings should!! with the bride in an Elmo onesie at home, in her slippers!! Both Jessica and Steve were getting ready together at home with their family. This is an unconventional way of starting the wedding morning but one that as a photographer, I love as it meant that I got to capture both bride and groom prep and it was just so relaxed. Jessicas incredible make up artist was Liz Staniland who I have worked with on several weddings now and comes highly reccomended. You can find her using the links at the bottom of this post if you would like to get in touch.

Jessica and Steve had their wedding ceremony at Oakham Registry office. For now at least they are not allowing anyone other than the wedding couple and their two witnesses in the room but I was there to capture their arrival and departure and we all cheered when we heard the words ‘I now pronounce you man and wife’. It did feel a little odd to not be right there in the ceremony but we found a way around it and though this was the case for Oakham registry office it isn’t the case for all micro weddings, it greatly depends on the venue size and location (outdoors has a little more flexibility).

Of course a wedding wouldn’t be a wedding without confetti of some sort. Jessica and Steve had picked and dried some lavender from their garden, it smelt so good! After confetti we composed some socially distanced group shots and then the group headed over to the reception venue, the wonderful Hitchens Barn in Oakham whilst I held the couple back and captured a few photographs just for them.

Weddings are of course exempt from the rule of 6 which came in to effect last week just before their wedding and we all breathed a sigh of relief. Because of this the couple were able to book out the top floor of Hitchens Barn for their micro wedding reception. It is such a beautiful location and perfect for anyone planning their micro wedding, the food was mouth wateringly good with the cheese soufflé being the star of the show. If you are interested in booking Hitchens Barn for your micro wedding just get in touch with Louise or Neil and I am sure they will be happy to help.

After dinner and speeches the couple retired to the local Hambleton Hall Hotel for their first evening as newlyweds, but not without first having a few more photos to celebrate their wedding day. They exchanged wedding day gifts just before I left them for the evening, feet dipped in the warm outdoor pool and relaxing in the sunshine. What a perfect end to an incredibly perfect day.

Guys I wish you only the best for the future and can’t wait for your wedding celebration party!!
